Ullatti dates back to the 1600s, and is one of the oldest villages in the vast area designated as the Lule Lapland. The village was populated long before today's main town of Gällivare

Hunting and fishing, and later livestock production and marsh farming / herding culture was dominant chores
Later
the agriculture and forestry took over as main occupation until the industrialization.

During the 1940s, the village had 900 inhabitants and was also by far the largest village in the area.
This was followed by a great exodus for many years before a turnaround came.
In 2011 the village had about 300 inhabitants and occupancy increases yet

The village has a grocery store, petrol station and kiosk, church, byastuga, retirement home, a large association building, great dance barn, lighted trails and a small ski slope
The activities and associations are numerous and live in the village, there are fishing association, sports club, shooting club, snowmobile association, the
community house, the foundation byastugan etc.
